Why Use CDN - Content Delivery Network?

CDNs are awesome in many different ways. The most interesting is this adds a layer of security to your website, it's FREE, and you can add many of the tools offered by CDN Networks to your website tool arsenal of what I like to call relevant user tactics. This works great when it comes to your site getting indexed by Google and the other search engines there is nothing to worry about other then better results.
CDN stands for Content Delivery Network, it also stands for Content Distribution Network. This is a globally distributed network of proxy servers deployed in multiple data centers and when your website is joined with this type of network the content of your website is served to end-users with high availability and high performance. CDNs serve a large fraction of the Internet content today, including web objects for example: text, graphics, downloadable objects like media files, software, documents, applications, e-commerce, portals, live streaming media, on-demand streaming media, and social networks.
CDN increase the page speed when users are viewing your website no matter where they are in the world because the website pages are cached at the different array of data centers all over the place, so the content provided to the user comes from the server closest to them and in return this also lowers the load level of the server. Most of these types of networks operate as an application service provider this is known as ASP on the Internet also known as on-demand software or software as a service (SaaS).
A CDN is a shared infrastructure deployed across the Internet for efficient delivery of Web content to Internet users. By sharing its vast resources among a large number of diverse customer websites, a CDN derives the economy of scale because different sites experience demand peaks of high number of users visiting your website, this is called flash crowds which happen at different times. CDNs are used also to absorb this unexpected demand for multiple sites.
When it comes to the security of your website CDNs also add a layer of protection to your website for example: If your website experiences an attack like a DDoS Attack the CDN can also absorb the attack ensuring your site does not go down.
Also compatible with most CDNs is an SSL or Secure Socket Layer which is the standard security technology for establishing an encrypted link between a web server and a browser. This secure link ensures that all data transferred remains private. It's also called TLS (Transport Layer Security). Millions of websites use SSL encryption everyday to secure connections and keep their customer's data safe from monitoring and tampering.
