If you are about to start a new venture for the first time, you
need to learn and be clear on the fundamentals. Otherwise you could just
end up going around like a headless chicken, trying to figure it out.
It's the same, when you are trying to start an online business. If you don't know the fundamentals, you could just find yourself, buying how to product after another, or the latest greatest, copy what I did to make money online scheme and not making any headway.
Let's get started, on the fundamentals, the four pillars
Pillar One - Know Your Audience
Your audience is your potential customer base. It's a pretty common misconception for inexperienced business owners to say, my customer base is anyone and everyone with a wallet full of cash. If that's the case for them, they are going to be in for a rough ride. If you are going sell something of value you need to know a bit about, your potential customer base.
In essence, your audience is people in the market or niche you've decided to operate in. A market or niche, is simply a group of people who have a common interest. Ideally your market or niche should be both profitable and competitive.
Pillar Two - Demonstrate Your Expertise/USP
There's a misconception floating around the internet marketing arena, that you do not have to have expertise to start an internet marketing business. Think about this for a moment, of you were to invest in something of value, who would you buy from, someone who doesn't know what they are talking about or from someone who does. Granted if the product is cheap or you already are familiar with the product, chances are it won't make much of a difference, however long term it would.
If you are wondering how much expertise and knowledge, you need to have. As much as you need to get started and that's both in your technical abilities to create a website and in your niche.
Pillar Three - Communication
You may know what your niche is and have some degree of expertise, however if you have no method of communicating with those people in the niches, you've literary got no chance to make any money.
There are several ways you can achieve this, either through your own site or a third party site. However if you are serious in building an online business, you really need to be able communicate with them on demand, i.e. you need to build a list.
Pillar Four - Products and services
These can be either products or services, either you've create or a service you can provide Alternatively, they could be products or services you promote as an affiliate. If there is one thing you need to be pretty certain of when you're promoting to your list, it's that whatever you promote is going to be something they would want and need. Otherwise you'll end up with subscriber apathy and unsubscribes. If you master the art of proactively communicating with your subscribers, you will easily be able to find out what their wants and needs are.
